Important
Information for Seventh Graders:
- Be sure to read your student handbook and get to know your school rules, attendance policies, opportunities for involvement, dress code, etc.
- Start your year with a plan to get involved, stay organized and do your very best in all your classes.
- Use your planner to keep up with assignments and important dates.
- Get involved and have FUN! School is like everything in life - the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
- Make an effort to get to know new people this year. Everyone has a story worth hearing!
- Develop your skills and talents and appreciate the different skills and talents others have to offer.

Grade Testing:

- All seventh graders will take the Stanford Achievement Test in April.
- This talent search identifies academically talented 7th graders and invites them to complete either the SAT or ACT college entrance examination.
- Participation in this program is completely voluntary.
- The benefits of this program include:
- Testing Experience (opportunity to preview a test they will take later on for college admission and learn about their current academic abilities)
- Receive the Education Resource Handbook
- Access to the Educational Opportunty Guide (an online directory listing schools and summer programs)
- Receive the Duke Gifted Letter (an e-newsletter available at www.dukgiftedletter.com)
- Receive My College Guide magazine
- Possible trip to Duke University for a recognition ceremony
- Possible qulaification for Duke TIP's Summer Studies
Programs
- In order to be eligible for this program, a student must
score in the 95th percentile or higher on a grade level standardized
achievement, aptitude, mental ability test battery or approved state
criterion-referenced test.
- Once a student has been reconized as meeting the
above-mentioned criteria, he or she must complete either a paper
application or apply online at www.tip.duke.edu.
- Qualifying students at Lee-Scott Academy will be notified
during the month of September and invited to particpate in this program.
