When do I start earning credit?
Students can start to earn credit in the 9th grade. (However, students who transfer to LSA may have earned credit for specific courses in the 8th grade.)
So my grades really don't "count" before the 9th grade year?
No, your performance before grade 9 is an indicator on how successful you may (or may not) be throughout your high school career. Study habits, organziation and time management skills must be learned and utilized before grade 9 in order to have a successful high school career.  In addition, your performance in grade 8 may determine your class placement for grade 9 (advanced or regular).

What are AP Classes?
Advanced Placement courses are available starting in the 11th grade. These are college level courses taught at a faster pace and require additional work. At the end of the schoolyear, students in AP courses will take an AP exam for that specific subject and have the opportunity to earn college credit. More information on AP courses can be found on the Academic Calculations link.

When should I take the ACT or SAT?
The ACT/SAT is typically taken during the Spring semester of the junior year. However, some students opt to take these tests as early as their 10th grade year. Students at LSA will be administered standardized tests throughout their high school career that are predictor tests for the ACT and SAT. (Grade 9 = EXPLORE test; Grade 10 = PLAN and PSAT test; Grade 11 = PSAT) Therefore, it is encouraged that students utilize the reporting of these tests (and the free ACT/SAT practice tests in the counselor's office) before registering for the ACT/SAT.
Should I take the Optional Written Portion?
Yes, at least once. Many colleges and universities (including Auburn University) now require completion of the Written Portion of these tests. In addition, some schools may use these scores as a benchmark for Freshman English placement.
