Introduction
You have read watched the film and
read exceprts from the novel Le Comte de
Monte-Cristo.
Coincidentally, you have just found out that you will be spending one
night on the island as part of a ghost hunter tour. You will act
as the experts of the group to provide information to the group in case
you have any "encounters" that need to be explained. Complete
this webquest to learn more about the historical location you will be
visiting.
The Task
Here is a summary of
your activities in the webquest:
- Answer a series
of questions related to your assigned topic and create a summary
- Give an historical
explanation for certain "spirits" that your group will encounter
- Create a tri-fold
poster to summarize your findings
- Answer further
questions by previewing your classmates' posters
Resources
The following
resources are available for you to use in your research. You may
also use other sources (internet or hard-copy) that you find during
your research, but please remember
to use appropriate citations.
You need more information than what is included on Wikipedia, so please
browse all of the sites below. The film will be available for you
in the classroom if needed.
The
Process
To accomplish the
task, follow these steps.
- Conduct
research on a specific topic (assigned to you by your teacher)
- Answer the questions on
your "fact sheet" provided to you by the teacher
- Don't
forget to tell where you got your information (citations!)
- Summarize
your "fact sheet" into a paragraph-style report
- Find out what historical
people or events could be haunting the island. You will research
a famous person or event (located on your fact sheet) in order to
explain some of the hauntings on the island.
- Look at the example of the tri-fold poster
and read the assessment rubric
- Create your poster and come to class
prepared to talk about your research topic and hauntings related to it

After completing the webquest, you
will know more about the people, place and historical events that
inspired the novel Le Comte de
Monte-Cristo. You will
also learn the truth behind the many mysterious visions and hauntings
associated with this infamous prison. You have met the following
