French Level 3
Course Description
Lee-Scott Academy

The Course
Students enrolling in French Level 3 should have a motivation to continue their learning experience with the French language.  Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and grammar knowledge during this class.  A main focus will be using additional verb tenses.  There will be a stronger focus on listening and reading comprehension, speaking, and writing through activities that are similar to those used on the AP French Language Exam.  Culture learning will also be highlighted in the course through contexts such as: songs, film, articles, and poetry.

Course content will expand on previous topics learned in French Levels 1 & 2.  Additional course content will be chosen based on texts and themes that are appropriate for students at this level.  Many concepts will be taught thematically, meaning that the student will learn grammar and vocabulary that has been embedded under the umbrella of a broader topic.  This will allow the student to begin to study some cultural aspects of learning a foreign language in addition to building their knowledge of how the language is used for communication.

Sample thematic lesson:
Main topic:  Biography and music of French singer Edith Piaf
Texts studied:  La vie en rose (film), La vie en rose (song), Non je ne regrette rien (song)
Grammar:  revision of past tense, time indicator words, introduction of the imperfect past tense, deciding when to use which tense when talking about the past

Student who complete French Level 3 are encouraged to enroll in the Level 4 class offered during their senior year in order to prepare for the AP French Language Exam in hopes of receiving college credit for their language studies.
