Nurse's Notes

Information from LSA’s Nurse

Dear Parents,

The school clinic is in full swing and I truly love caring for your sweet children! Good school attendance is very important! However, there will be times when your child is too ill to attend.

Vomiting OR Diarrhea

Your child should stay home 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea without medicine.

Fever

Children who have a temperature of 100.5 degrees or higher should not attend school for 24 hours.

For example, at bedtime your child has a fever of 101 degrees but in the morning awakens with a temperature of 97.6. Please keep your child home for an additional 24 hours after the fever has passed (without giving fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin). A good rule to remember is simply “24 hours fever-free.”

A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in classes in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school and allows your child opportunity to rest and recover.

Policies for Administration of Medicine at School:

Prescription Medication must arrive in the original pharmacy container. The written instructions on the container for dosages and times will be followed. Send in medication along with LSA Medication Authorization form signed by physician and parent.

Over-the-counter medications must be in the original container. Dosage administered will not exceed instructions on the label. Send in medication along with the LSA Medication Authorization form signed by parent (physician signature not required).

I am here to help you any way that I can. Thanks for doing your part to keep all of our children happy and healthy!

Fondly,

Nurse Farris
