Lee-Scott Academy is pleased to announce that Coach William Johnson has been named athletic director and Coach Corye Ivatt has been named assistant athletic director. Both will begin their duties on July 1, 2018.
Coach Johnson began his coaching career in 2004 at Fort Dale Academy, his alma mater, coaching football, basketball, and baseball. He spent one year at Pike Liberal Arts before moving to Tuscaloosa Academy. During his five years at TA, he served as the head varsity boys and girls basketball coach, and the head JV football coach. His basketball teams made four state championship game appearances, winning the 2014 boys championship and the 2016 girls championship. His JV football teams had back-to-back undefeated seasons.
Coach Johnson is currently the varsity boys basketball coach, assistant football coach, and teaches physical education. In his two seasons with the varsity boys basketball program, he has had back-to-back final four appearances.
Coach Johnson is married to Laurie Johnson, and together they have three children: Watts, Ellis, and Ann Carlton.
Coach Ivatt began her coaching career in 2007 at Lee-Scott Academy as the varsity girls basketball assistant coach and the head JV girls coach. In 2014, Ivatt took over as head coach of the varsity girls basketball program. In her four years, the team has made four final four appearances and finished state runner-up twice. In her tenure as the JV head coach, she has led the program to six JV state championships. Ivatt was named the 2016-2017 Alabama Sports Writers Association AISA Basketball Coach of the Year.
Coach Ivatt has been the assistant softball coach for three years over her time at Lee-Scott Academy. The team made appearances in the state tournament all three of those years and finished state runner-up in 2009. She took over as the head softball coach in 2017 and the team finished third in the state that year.
Coach Ivatt is currently the head girls basketball coach and physical education teacher here at Lee-Scott Academy. She is married to Neil Ivatt, and together they have two children: Clarke and Sutton.
The amazing accomplishments of our student-athletes bring our community together in celebration of the values and the success that LSA is known for statewide in our athletic program. We look forward to the future of LSA athletics under the leadership of Coach Johnson and Coach Ivatt.
On behalf of the LSA family, congratulations to Coach Johnson and Coach Ivatt!
Lee-Scott Academy realizes that technology impacts our daily lives, including education and our students. It can be a very powerful and beneficial tool for teaching and learning as we prepare our students for college. Our faculty is using technology in their classrooms to foster collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity on a daily basis.
LSA will be transitioning from student-owned to school-owned devices for our 6th, 9th, and 10th graders beginning with the 2018-2019 school year in order to utilize classroom management software and to better prepare our upperclassmen for college. The Board of Trustees has approved an implementation plan that will allow the campus to be all school-owned beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. A Technology Task Force Committee has been formed to implement this new plan with our faculty and students.

Dear LSA Families and Supporters:
The athletic department is gearing up for another great year for our teams, and we need your support of the program! Last year, over 60% of the students enrolled in grades 7 – 12 participated on at least one team during the 2017 - 2018 school year.
The 2018 – 2019 athletic season will be no different from years past where we will rely on your support to provide opportunities in athletics to all of our student-athletes. We are already planning for the new year and are putting together a list of short-term and long-term needs for our athletic program that will be partially funded through your support. This year, we will declare 11 sports and field 25 teams on the peewee, junior high and varsity level.
Below are links to information about the LSA Warrior All-Sports Program sponsorships and sports passes. Spiritual Emphasis Week has been a tradition that can be traced back in our school history. This has been a week that focused on the spiritual growth of our students. Each year, students were exposed to a speaker and activities that were centered around a Biblical theme.
Wanting Lee-Scott Academy students to develop a Biblical Worldview, a week just didn't seem adequate. Therefore, our principals were asked to find ways to integrate the Bible into academics, extracurricular activities and social interaction.
Of course the foundation of "Spiritual Emphasis" is laid during structured Bible classes. Individual growth is developed as students start each day with morning devotions. During these devotions, students are encouraged to take what they have learned in God's Word and apply it to the choices they make each day.
Special events also play a role in developing a Biblical Worldview. We are purposeful about participating in activities that draw us close to Christ. The highlight of our year-long spiritual emphasis is the schedule of special events planned for February.
February 7: Upper School assembly with guest speaker Mike Lutzenkirchen
February 12: Coffee and Muffins with Parents - time for LSA parents to pray for our faculty/staff, Lower and Upper School students and parents. Parents may use the Campus Prayer Guide to pray for our school.
February 12 – 16: Campus Prayer Walk for Lower School Classes
February 21 – 23: Upper School students lead morning devotions for Lower School Classes
February 26 – March 2: Unity Prayer time for Lower and Upper Schools
Information about each of these activities will be shared the closer we get to each event.
Thank you in advance for your support in making each of these activities worthwhile and meaningful for the students.
