Lee-Scott Academy is pleased to announce that Coach William Johnson has been named athletic director and Coach Corye Ivatt has been named assistant athletic director. Both will begin their duties on July 1, 2018.
Coach Johnson began his coaching career in 2004 at Fort Dale Academy, his alma mater, coaching football, basketball, and baseball. He spent one year at Pike Liberal Arts before moving to Tuscaloosa Academy. During his five years at TA, he served as the head varsity boys and girls basketball coach, and the head JV football coach. His basketball teams made four state championship game appearances, winning the 2014 boys championship and the 2016 girls championship. His JV football teams had back-to-back undefeated seasons.
Coach Johnson is currently the varsity boys basketball coach, assistant football coach, and teaches physical education. In his two seasons with the varsity boys basketball program, he has had back-to-back final four appearances.
Coach Johnson is married to Laurie Johnson, and together they have three children: Watts, Ellis, and Ann Carlton.
Coach Ivatt began her coaching career in 2007 at Lee-Scott Academy as the varsity girls basketball assistant coach and the head JV girls coach. In 2014, Ivatt took over as head coach of the varsity girls basketball program. In her four years, the team has made four final four appearances and finished state runner-up twice. In her tenure as the JV head coach, she has led the program to six JV state championships. Ivatt was named the 2016-2017 Alabama Sports Writers Association AISA Basketball Coach of the Year.
Coach Ivatt has been the assistant softball coach for three years over her time at Lee-Scott Academy. The team made appearances in the state tournament all three of those years and finished state runner-up in 2009. She took over as the head softball coach in 2017 and the team finished third in the state that year.
Coach Ivatt is currently the head girls basketball coach and physical education teacher here at Lee-Scott Academy. She is married to Neil Ivatt, and together they have two children: Clarke and Sutton.
The amazing accomplishments of our student-athletes bring our community together in celebration of the values and the success that LSA is known for statewide in our athletic program. We look forward to the future of LSA athletics under the leadership of Coach Johnson and Coach Ivatt.
