Lee-Scott Drama Department

The Lee-Scott Academy Drama Department, led by Mrs. Melania Brown, combines the talent and commitment of students in both Lower and Upper Schools who have a passion for the theatre. Lee-Scott Academy students are offered opportunities to audition for productions all the way from 3rd – 12th Grade. This age range gives our Upper School students an opportunity to mentor younger actors and develop their own leadership skills in an extra curricular activity. In past years, the LSA Drama Department has put on productions such as The Little Mermaid, Jr., The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Sound of Music, Annie, Jr., Little Women and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

The troupe also competes at the AISA State Drama Festival and Alabama Thespian Festival (ATF) annually. LSA Drama has won 1st place in the Musical Theatre category among other awards including All-Star Cast awards and the Best Actor award. Many of our participants have earned Superior ratings at ATF and have traveled to Nebraska to compete on the international level.

International Thespian Society

In the spring of 2011, Lee-Scott Academy’s chapter of the International Thespian Society inducted 13 charter members. The International Thespian Society is an honorary society with membership granted through a point system based on time given to the theatre, either on the stage or behind the scenes, as in stage management, crew, lighting or sound. New members are invited annually and inducted in the spring. Membership allows students to participate at the Alabama Thespian Festival. If Superior ratings are earned in individual events, students will then have the opportunity to travel to Nebraska to compete at the international level.

Seniors that are members of the International Thespian Society will be awarded honor cords to wear at graduation.
